We often carry painful, paralyzing beliefs about ourselves. These may come from the meanings we have made of our experiences – that we are difficult to love, that our love can hurt others, that we are inadequate in some way, or that we can’t get going on our hopes and dreams. When we feel stuck, or feel we lack options, it is easy to become isolated, depressed, and hopeless. I see the therapeutic process as a way for people to identify and pursue options, a way to make healthy choices on their own behalf, a way to move forward by exploring, understanding, and if necessary, changing our beliefs about ourselves.
Issues often addressed in my work with individuals include depression, anxiety, history of physical and sexual trauma, abandonment, divorce, perinatal issues, aging, and sexual and gender identity.
